About the Book
When Amos’s Dad was young, there was a spell for everything.
The spells are mostly gone now. Amos has grown up in an isolated mountain valley where his family repairs wooden carts by hand, builds with salvaged iron and stone, and remembers the single night when the magical world ended.
Amos remembers everything his parents tell him. He also has Traits: strength, resilience, and abilities that would once have attracted the attention of governments and research facilities. In the valley, they make him useful. Beyond it, he does not yet know what they will make him.
His parents reached the valley in a monorail carriage when they were young and stranded. The city beyond the mountain burned. The monorail died. The survivors built a life and raised a family in the ruins of a civilization their children never saw.
Amos has counted the days until he can leave. In eleven months, three weeks, and four days, he will begin his first journey and discover what remains beyond the mountains.
The First Journey of Amos Cutter is epic fantasy in a ruined, highly civilized magical world: a story of travel, encounter, danger, family purpose, and a young man who is already entirely himself before the road begins.
